The history of Illuminate
Illuminate Bookshop has been trading in Shrewsbury since 2004 but the history of the business stretches back over 50 years before that. From our premises in Shrewsbury we serve the Christian community from the all over Shrewsbury, Shropshire and Mid-Wales. Many of our customers come from further afield, and through the web we serve an unlimited amount of customers across the world!
Phil Whittall and Jeremy Taylor bought the existing business (known as Freemans) in 2004. For several years Phil had been editor of Christian Marketplace Christian Marketplace, the Christian book trade magazine. In 2004 Phil believed it was the right to get involved with Christian retail in his home town and made an approach to the owners of Freemans. Amongst other things Phil also leads North Shrewsbury Community Church North Shrewsbury Community Church and writes a blog The Simple Pastor.
